Can you imagine being this happy only one day after having an ablation done on your heart? For that matter, can you imagine being this happy with an IV in your HEAD? Stellan is an amazing little cherub, isn't he??Here's his mother's report on her blog this morning:
The only two things the doctors are watching closely at this point post-surgery for Stellan are:
His bradycardia. Stellan continues to have a very slow heart rate. Perhaps this is just his new baseline, or perhaps this is indicative of a problem. Either way, 70-80 beats per minute for a 5 month old who is off anti-arrhythmia medications is pretty slow.
The junctional rhythm that has been sporadically seen in Stellan's heart rhythm patterns today. I am just beginning to get my footing (Read: MckMama medical research 101) on what this is. I will post more about it when I am better versed in what in tarnation it is and how it might affect Stellan's health and his situation at large.
At any rate, we will be getting a whole truckload of new information tomorrow. Stellan is slated to have an esophageal study in the Cath Lab tomorrow. He is NPO (Not being allowed to eat/nurse/drink at all.) until then, since he will be going under anesthesia. Dr. A will perform the procedure tomorrow. (With the famous Dr. W who is the head of the department out here and is world renowned in electrical cardiac issues. If you know anything about Who's Who in electrophysiology, then you know who I'm talking about. He and Dr. A actually both worked on Stellan's ablation as a pair yesterday.)
The purpose of the esophageal study is to see if SVT can be induced in Stellan's heart. Determining whether SVT can or can not be induced in Stellan's heart is the next step towards figuring out where we go from here. Where we go if SVT can be induced will have to be decided upon once we cross that bridge. But if SVT can not be induced tomorrow, we will be getting clearance to buy a plane ticket and go home!!!Tonight will likely be a long, hungry one for Stellan, and tomorrow will be another big day.
Please continue to pray for this sweet baby and his family. Especially through long periods of NPO. How can a 5 month old understand why his mommy won't nurse him when he's hungry? In some ways when he was NPO for Tuesday's surgery, it was harder on his mommy than him, I think. It hurt HER heart for him to cry and root around on her wanting to eat and not be able to feed him. Her name is Jennifer and she is an amazing young woman. Please pray for her.
She will have no family with her in Boston during the procedure tomorrow (her dad has flown back to Minnesota). Pray for her peace. She loves the Lord so passionately! Pray for Him to wrap a bubble of love and peace around her as she waits.
Pray for all concerned in the test - Stellan, medical personnel, machinery to work properly, etc. etc.
Pray that they will soon be ready to go back home. There are three other cherubs (4, 3 & 2) as adorable as Stellan waiting for Jennifer at home - and her "Prince Charming" who is holding down the fort, too.
Pray as the Lord leads you - but (to quote Ron Dunn) "Don't just stand there - Pray something!"
