WEIGH IN

True to my card holding membership in Procrastinator's Anonymous, this past Tuesday I bought my dress for my granddaughter's wedding which is a mere two weeks away. I may have waited until the "last minute" but, thankfully, I was still able to find a dress I loved. However, I confess, I did NOT love the SIZE I had to buy. Yesterday after I posted this picture on Facebook I sat looking at it and thinking, "How on earth did I get this fat again??" Did you catch that last word? AGAIN. Shall I say it once more? AGAIN! ARGH!!! If I wrote my autobiography today I'd have to title it "YoYo." This is the story of my life. Lose weight. Gain weight. Lose weight. Gain weight. Lose weight. Gain weight.

The sad thing is, every time I successfully lose weight I promise myself I will NOT gain it back. Yet, here I am again. How on earth did I get this fat again? That's an easy question to answer. By eating more food than my body needs. By failing to exercise. I did it one day at a time, one bite at a time, one unburned calorie at a time.

But here's a question that is NOT so easy to answer. It was posed to me by a girl in my Sunday School class, a sister in weight struggles, a couple of weeks ago. Here's basically how she worded the question that was in both our hearts - and I would venture to guess, also in many of yours.

God has broken powerful bondages in my life and I walk in freedom in those areas today because of His wonderful deliverance. Why can't I get freedom in this area? What makes weight struggles different from any other bondage?

Weigh in, girls... especially those of you who face this same struggle. Let's get some dialog going. Let's see if we can encourage one another. How would you respond to this question: Why are we unable to find God's freedom in the area of food issues?

As someone who has been eating all day trying to get "filled up" and still being hungry, I don't think I qualify to answer your question! ha I do have food issues!

You look great in the new dress. I can't find you on Facebook. I just joined on Christmas after we got our new satellite internet instead of the old SLOW dialup service.

Happy New Year.

UGH......good question!! When you find the answer PLEASE, PLEASE let me know but here are my thoughts after mulling over this for a day...I trust this makes sense....
1. Food is the only addiction that we can NOT live without. We have to have it for our basic survival granted we need to stop when we are full and choose healthy choices, etc...
2. Food is used for entertaining in someone's home, receptions,etc.. and used to gather friends and family to fellowship
3. Although obesity does have a "stigma" attached to it it is not looked down on as say to someone who is a drug addict, alcoholic, etc... so therefore we are not as likely to have someone confront us about our or my addiction.

Now, the real question......why can we not be free from this bondage? Hmmmm........Hmmmm...Hmm...still trying to figure that one out!!
Let me know your thoughts.........I truly desire to be healthy AND lighter!! Pray for me!

I, too, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your dress and I think you look beautiful!! Have fun and make some memories at the wedding and tell all I said hello.

Much love even though you made me think!!

I don't blame anyone else but myself and my laziness for my overweight body! I need more exercise and I know God gives me the sense to know what I should do but it's my own fault for not doing it!!

Beverly, thanks for your sweet words about Harper. She is the delight of our lives! Something new everyday!

Enjoy that granddaughter's wedding!! Being in my 60's, I just pray I will even be around to see Harper marry someday! Maybe if she marries at age 12....har har!!

Blessings!

Beverly, I can TOTALLY relate to this post, times 10!! I've been there more times than I can count. I was just thinking today how I weigh more than 85 pounds than I did 15 years ago when I graduated from high school. I had a weight problem then -- anorexia and bad body image -- and I have a weight problem now -- obesity and still bad body image. It's like no matter what I weigh, I don't like what I see in the mirror.

My problem is that I LOVE food. It is my addiction. I love to eat. I love the way it tastes. If I could have one wish, sadly, it would probably be that I could eat anything I wanted and still keep a perfect figure. ;)

I'm back on track with the weight loss but I keep telling myself that I will fail again. :( I WANT this time to be different but I wonder what will make it different?

Beverly - I'm not "one of the girls" but a fellow yo-yo. I totally identify with your frustration. I've come to the conclusion that eating - for me at least - is not a stomach problem but a head problem. Much, if not most, of my eating is not because I'm hungry. I eat when I'm happy, when I'm sad (rarely), when I'm stressed, when I'm bored, to reward myself, etc. And especially to keep from hurting someone's feelings when they serve me an oversized dessert. I'm a social eater, a closet eater, and a binge eater. I can think of all kinds of excuses to do what I want to do already.

Sorry that I don't have any cures to offer. Just empathy from someone who suffers the same addiction and accompanying guilt.

Hi Beverly, I just sent you an email, but had to comment on this blog. I have had the same struggle...losing, gaining, losing, and gaining again. I'm hoping that this time the weight will stay off. My friend, LaJoyce, on ShoutLife got me started on Isagenix and in just 3 weeks I have lost 10 lbs. (haven't been able to do that in years). so far it's working for me, so you might want to look into it.

But, I do agree that you look fabulous in your new dress, so just go and enjoy your granddaughter's wedding. I had that privelege on 2 occasions and it is a wonderful experience.

God Bless you,
Sandy Lee

Love this post! Thanks for sharing it Mrs. Beverly. Most people would think that skinny people don't have this issue or these same thoughts, but they do. I don't think I am skinny but some people think I am. I have realized, you will never be skinny/small enough. At my smallest, skinniest self, I looked and felt great, but it wasn't enough. I do have to say, I have reached a point, that I have to get to everytime I yo-yo back up...that point is releasing the bondage of my weight and size to God, just like anything else that weighs me down and distracts me. Realize that God accepts and loves me just the way I am, muffin top and all! Of course He wants us to be healthy and take care of our bodies, but that's when I feel confident and I shed pounds/inches. Put away the store bought mirrors, and look in the ultimate mirror in the direction of what God wants us to look like. This is something that I struggle with, just like the next girl. It's depressing, but encouraging knowing that no matter what I look like, my God loves me!
