Daughters and Granddaughters

Today is my first-born granddaughter's 20th birthday. Today she leaves behind her teen-age years and embraces the world of young adult-hood. And her grandmother - ahem - ME - shakes my head in disbelief and wonders where the years have gone.

Three days earlier this same grandmother - ahem - ME - sat in the stands at our local coliseum and watched my second-born granddaughter walk across a stage leaving behind her high school years, embracing a diploma and stepping into the new adventure of her future. I shook my head in disbelief and wondered where the years have gone.

Where HAVE all the years gone? They've gone the way of all the other years of our past - storing their sweetest memories in our hearts as treasures forever. For such is the way of life. Hours pass into days. Days pass into weeks . . . weeks into months . . . months into years . . . and then, somehow before we know what has happened, the years have evaporated and we find ourselves searching for remembrance of them in the corners of our minds - and in photo albums.

And daughters give birth to daughters of their own

And then, in the blink of an eye, their daughters are graduating

Yes, years come and years go. Daughters are born and daughters grow up. And the years of memories dance their way across our hearts with unending music and joy.
Many daughters have done excellently,
but you, my precious daughters and granddaughters,
surpass them all in my heart.
Proverbs 31:29
