SS LESSON - WEEK 2

For my SS Sisters - here are the answers to your listening guide on p.19 of your workbooks. Other posts this week will add a little "commentary."

REPENTANT HEARTS

NATURAL SORROW:
God made us to be able to WEEP/CRY/SHED TEARS.

Mourning shows ACCEPTANCE and LOVE.

UNNATURAL SORROW:
Its effects on our lives are OPPOSITE to what God wants us to experience.

Godly sorrow HEALS, but unnatural sorrow makes the wounds DEEPER and fills the heart with PAIN.

Godly sorrow HELPS us put our lives back together. Unnatural sorrow TEARS things apart and KEEPS them that way.

Godly sorrow helps you learn to FACE and ACCEPT reality. Unnatural sorrow isolates you from reality and makes it difficult for you to adjust to the DEMANDS of life.

Unnatural sorrow often comes from
  1. SELFISHNESS
  2. FEAR
  3. GUILT

SUPERNATURAL SORROW:

People who see their spiritual bankruptcy can respond by:
(1) DENYING it exists

(2) admit it and try to CHANGE on their own

(3) admit it and so DESPAIR over it that they GIVE UP

(4) admit it and turn to GOD for WHAT THEY NEED

Two extremes to avoid in dealing with our sin

(1) being too EASY on ourselves

(2) being too HARD on ourselves

SPIRITUAL COMFORT:

(1) from GOD

(2) from SCRIPTURE

(3) from the HOLY SPIRIT

(4) from FELLOW BELIEVERS
