Music was a blessing even more special than usual for us this year. Our son is a talented guitarist and we love to hear him sing and play but don't get that privilege as often as we'd like because he lives over 800 miles away. This year he posted recordings of several Christmas songs on the internet where we could access them (and share them on facebook and my blog). That was a real treat for us!
Christmas music is like no other music. We've all heard chords so grand they send shivers down the back of our necks. We've all known the overwhelming sense of joy that floods our soul when the familiar strains of melodies fill the air with emotion so strong it wraps itself around our hearts.
Many of our Christmas memories are stored away within the refrains of beloved carols, aren't they? What a blessing music is when we close our eyes and let it move us through time.
So much of the Christmas spirit lies in the music of the season. I hope you took time to sing yourself through the holidays.
One of the ladies who collected for the Salvation Army in front of our local Walmart this year sang carols the whole time she stood her post at the red kettle. You could hear her singing from way out in the parking lot. I LOVED IT!!! It brought an automatic smile to peoples' faces and put a song in their hearts that many found themselves humming while they shopped.
I'm blessed to have a husband that sings beautifully and LOVES Christmas carols. When he shops with me, he sings (or whistles) carols the whole time we are shopping. Sure does make it a lot more fun!
What's your favorite Christmas song? You can still sing it this 2nd day of Christmas. . . And who knows, it might bring a smile to someone's face.
Wouldn't you love to have heard the angelic choir sing the first Christmas carol that night outside sleepy Bethlehem?
"Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests." Luke 2:13-14
