LIGHT THE CANDLES

Candles and lights - they are a large part of our Christmas decorating, aren't they?

Since we only live a little over a mile away from our local airport, Roy likes to tease that I use so many lights at Christmas he fears an airplane will mistake our house for a landing strip. LOL

Well, girls, the Light of the World has come! Why wouldn't we shout it from the rooftop?

"The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned." Isaiah 9:1

Candles and candleabra, lights on the wreaths, lights on the trees, lights on the garlands, lights on the eaves - everywhere you look the lights of Christmas are shining. God lavishly spread His light across the sky the night His Son was born on earth. Isn't it entirely appropriate that we herald the remembrance of His coming with light?

Jesus told us "I am the Light of the World. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." John 8:12

Is His light shining as brightly in your heart this season as it is in your decorations?

Oh, sweet Jesus, shine Your light in the dark recesses of my heart today and expose the places that need a fresh visitation of Your grace and mercy. You are the Light of the World. Remind me that You have also called me - ordinary, stumbling, imperfect "me" - to be the light of the world. Especially during this busy season - when I am tired - perhaps frustrated with standing in line at a check out counter - remind me that some people will not see Your light unless they see it shining in me. Shine, Jesus. Shine!
