700 years before Jesus was born the prophet Isaiah foresaw His coming and wrote:"For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And his name shall be called WONDERFUL COUNSELOR, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Isaiah 9:6
Each Sunday in December my Sunday School class is studying one of these four names. Today it's WONDERFUL COUNSELOR. I love to study the names of God in scripture for there is a wealth to learn about Him in every name. These four - WONDERFUL COUNSELOR, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace - are four of the BIRTH names of Jesus. Each of them is a dual revelation to us. They reveal what Jesus is in himself and also what He wants to do for us.
"Each name that He bears indicates some blessing that He shares." (Warren W. Wiersbe)
Jesus is your WONDERFUL COUNSELOR.
In Him is the Spirit of
- understanding
- knowledge
- strength
- and deep reverence for God
As you learn to hear My voice, the intimacy with the living God, which you desire, will be available to you.
I have all you need to know concerning
- relationships
- decisions
- circumstances
Our Wonderful Counselor speaks to us in many ways.
- Through His Word
- Through Prayer
- Through His Spirit
- Through other people
- Through circumstances
- not argue with it
- not ask Him to revise it
- but simply ACCEPT it.
Oh, precious Abba, during this busy Christmas season, may we have ears to hear your voice of counsel. May we have hearts that desire to do Your will. May we have a spirit that is yielded to obey. Guide us with your counsel that our lives may bring glory to You! Amen.
